Psychology 1010
Reflection
Before I took this class I had an idea of psychology and what I will be reading about. I had taken a psychology class in high school and I had taken several classes at slcc that pertain to psychology. For example I had taken classes like: lifespan and growth development, family and marriage, and sociology. I was always so intrigued with any class or anything that had some sort of psychology behind it. My thoughts on this class before taking was that this class will give me an overlook of how psychology started and how it affected each generation overall.
As I was picking my classes for this spring semester I kept thinking that how interesting psychology has always been to me and thinking how I could make a future career in psychology. Before taking this class I thought there was only type of psychology and one major in psychology. In reality there are many different categories of psychology. For example there is clinical psychology, neuropsychology, child psychology, environmental psychology etc. After taking this psychology class I had gained more information about how psychology has so much to do with us humans beings and everything we do, say, choose and decide.
There was one assignment that influenced my thoughts. The personality quiz has influenced and changed my perspective on psychology. The quizzes I took had resembled accurate results about me. For example, the results said I was anxious, playful, and always in for a surprise. These results gave me an approach to learn more in depth about how the quizzes taken in psychology could reflect a lot about a person. In the future every question I have about people, the way we think, and how we are affected I will research it and use it in my everyday life.

Parenting Advice
1) I have decided to choose these two websites: www.kidshealth.org and www.healthychildren.org
2) In the healthychildren’s website there is developmental information present for: prenatal, baby, toddler, teen and young adults. The second website kidshealth.org there’s developmental information present for newborns, to two years olds.
2A) They share similarities in feed and nutrition for babies eight to twelve months and from prenatal to twelve months. The two different websites share the same information about milk and baby formula. They say that cow’s milk is difficult to digest for babies and it doesn’t have the nutrition that infants need like: iron and vitamin C. They share similar sleep information for babies eight months to twelve months. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) the healthiest way for a baby to sleep is on their backs during the nights. Sleeping on their backs helps reduce sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The two websites discuss how putting your baby to sleep on a firm surface is better for the baby. They’re similar in that they both suggest not to put anything in the baby’s crib. Parents need to keep soft objects, loose bedding, or any suffocating or strangulation out of the baby’s crib.
2B) The website healthychildren.org explains how to give a baby a bath and take care of their skin. As for the other website kidshealth.org there’s a category for learning to play with you baby. They both differ in how much information is provided. One website contains more about infants than the other website. In the healthychildren website it gives a chart of the unsafe foods for a toddler. For example, some unsafe foods are: nuts, hotdogs, marshmallows, and popcorn etc.
2C) School age Children:
The same two websites both share information on teens and puberty. It’s a change for both boys and girls. They both share similarities in teens and fitness. Both say teens need a thirty-minute to an hour of exercise per day. Also, teens need to spend less time watching T.V, playing video games and using computers.
2D) Differences:
On the website healthychildren.org it contains more information on teens than the kidshealth.org. the healthychildren.org website has information on a teenager’s nutritional needs like: nutrients, protein, carbs, dietary, fats, and vitamins. As for the second website it discusses how having family meals will likely make teens eat more fruits, veggies, and grains. Also, the second website suggested that family meals will help teens less likely to smoke, use marijuana, or drink alcohol. In the website healthychildren.org or gives information for parents about birth control for sexually active teens. The article discusses the different types of birth control like: contraceptive implant, IUD, Depo shot, Vaginal ring, contraceptive patch, and birth control pills. The article gives parents a list of advantages, disadvantages and the definition of the types of birth controls. As for the other website kidshealth.org there’s an article that gives information on how a parent could start talking to their child about menstruation. In this article it explains how the menstrual cycle lasts up to 28 days and that a period lasts up to five days. This menstruation article suggests that parents shouldn’t avoid the talks about menstruation. Instead, parents should answer their children’s questions.
2E) These two websites were very easy to find just by googling it. My two websites were easy to read, easy to navigate, and understandable. Yes I would recommend both these websites to parents because both have reliable information and useful advice to help any parent that’s struggling.
3) In the textbook chapter nine and section three “Stages of development,” it talks about infancy and how newborn infants sensory are significant. Also, they have great cognitive abilities like: understanding objects, and how they work. In chapter nine and section three it talks about puberty and how girls start puberty around twelve to thirteen years old and boys around thirteen to fourteen years old.
